Today at TAFE we were discussing the importance of Culture.

This is a topic that is always on my mind . I am so passionate about creating places that all families, educators and commuity members belong.

I believe it all starts with Acknowledgment.

How do you acknowledge each family  in your care?

With every child’s enrolment you gain insight into the families culture – use it to add items that relate to their culture into your room.

Don’t forget every family has their own culture – their own set of beliefs and important events in their lives. Build your rapport with these families and acknowledge these important events. It could be a simple as displaying a picture of their new pet or asking their grandparents in to visit.

Its about using the information families provide you to extend and enhance your environment.

When you do this, and regularly ,you are showing families their lives and beliefs are important. You are giving the children in your care a place to learn there are many different people in our world and that is exciting.

You are giving children the skills to create a world where we all belong, where people are acknowledged and respected and that is truly beautiful

Here are some ideas to start, these items have mostly collected from second hand shops.

I would love to know what you do to create a place of Belonging……   Mrs B
