Mrs B is a teacher of Early Childhood Development at the Sunshine Coast TAFE, backed by way too many years of experience.
I studied my Diploma of Community Services – Childcare at Wodonga Institute of TAFE. I learnt so much from my teachers and still put in practice their teachings today. After working as a group leader and playground coordinator I wanted to learn more about the world. So off to the U.K I went where I lived, traveled Europe and worked as a nanny. After 2 and half years I had the travel bug and wanted to continue learning about different cultures, meeting great people and lovely families, so Canada was my next destination where I had some of my best travelling memories. I was very fortunate to nanny for some wonderful families that gave me the opportunity to learn more about how families function and the importance of culture. Sadly after 3 and half years my traveling came to and end but in leaving Canada I had made life long friends and life long memories.
Once back home I began working for a Rural Mobile Service, providing childcare and preschool to children in rural communities. This experience gave me an opportunity to learn more about different communities within Australia and what to do if a snake is in the community hall!
With this knowledge I was able to gain employment as an After School Care and Vacation Care Coordinator. This was such a fun job!!! I coordinated an After School Care program for 30 primary school children and coordinated Vacation Program’s for 60 children. This job gave me the opportunity to work with older children; I learnt that laughter, giggling and being silly is a must. During this time I gained my Diploma in Frontline Management.
I moved to Noosa and began as a Director of a Long Day Care Centre. This position gave me opportunity to incorporate the love of learning, the importance of families, children and educators to belong and the excitement of a team working together to create a High Quality Centre that embraced the Early Years Learning Framework. During this time I gained my Advanced Diploma in Childcare and Certificate 4 in Training. I was very fortunate to be nominated as Director of the Year (Australian Child Care Awards) 2009, 2010 and 2011. In 2011 I was short listed in the category of Director of the Year.
I feel very blessed to have experienced all that I have. Each position has taught me so much. What I have enjoyed the most is teaching children, students, parents, family members, and community members that we all belong, that each person has something special to give and we must celebrate that. I love to learn, connect and network. I am hoping this blog will give you this opportunity……enjoy

Wondering about the childcare changes with our new government?
Have a look at the Coalition’s Policy for Better Child Care and Early Learning….
I have had many discussions with educators about concerns the sector will go backwards esp. with the changes to the NQS and qualifications.
The question is, has all our hard work been for nothing?
My answer …. Absolutely not, look at all that has been achieved, I know I will advocate for our profession and I know all educators will too.
Thank you all for what you do each and every day.
An educator asked me recently for any information on Reflection’s. I thought I would share with you one example we use at TAFE. I find it simple to use yet very effective. Have a look, I hope they can inspire you and simplify your program. I hope you will feel you are spending more time with children implementing the program rather than documentation.
